It's the Little Things

I go through periods in life when I am completely oblivious to my surroundings. I don't know where my head goes, but it is not in the terrestrial, that's all I know. As my neglect of the world begins to wane, I enter into this almost hyper-observant state. I notice EVERYTHING. I am pretty sure I would be a "super smeller" or "super taster" during these periods (yes, those are legitimate terms). The grey fog of New York City that has eclipsed my mind is suddenly dashed away and I see. I see the city, the buildings, the isolation, the residents, the tourists, the window displays, the subway grates - like I said, everything. I notice sights and smells that I encounter everyday in a completely "new" way. It makes me smile.

The thing that makes me smile the most all year round are the Nuts 4 Nuts carts. In the spring and summer the smell of those delectable roasting nuts hangs in the air for blocks. It's the best when the air starts to bite, though. The smell doesn't reach your nose a far away, but it warms your entire body when it finally does! I bought a pack yesterday. I wasn't really hungry at the time, but that smell! In the brisk, autumn days that seem to be overtaking NYC in a flurry that little package of sugar and peanuts becomes the best smelling hand warmer that anyone could imagine. Plus, you do get to eat it :).

How can something so small make me so darn excited!?!?
